revisiting

I currently live in Kororareka, Aotearoa, where summers are hot but not too humid and winters are often refreshing. lately, I've been revisiting sun printing, mainly because I keep finding cast-offs from the bird and plant life. factor in the abundant sunlight and, well, I just have to.

I've always enjoyed sun printing's a tactile, hands-on process. it's just me; the material, a darkened room, paper, time, sunlight and chemicals.  matter comes in direct contact with the paper and as a result part of that material becomes embedded in the paper.  the imprint 'carries' a trace of the original material memorializing it within a new and unique object.

these bodies of work

what inspires me to make images?  being home in Aotearoa; indigenous culture; colonization;  marriage; living, working and studying abroad; marriage, family and relationships; religion; friendships and loved ones lost and gained; other artists work; philosophy, reading, rethinking and having a go; hard times; good times; being respectful of others; observing and listening; receiving and contributing; trying things; loving.
